Google Chrome, Late Entries & Competition18 Dec
Ok, so I just downloaded Google Chrome . So far – so REALLY good.
Since I have a love crush on just about everything Google, it’s only fitting that I use their new browser. Besides, Internet Explorer has been freezing and locking up on me the last couple of months. Good timing Google.
Which brings me to what I really wanted to talk about…arriving late on the scene.
Perhaps you’ve decided to do something. Start a venture, write a book, a blog, an education series…whatever, but as you head out into (your) unchartered territory, it seems that “everybody” is already doing it!
You might begin to think that others have more experience, knowledge and skill. Maybe your book/blog/venture should just be left up to the pros.
All of a sudden, your new shiny discoveries don’t seem like that big a deal anymore.
Fortunately for you (and Google) there is always room for whatever it is that you have to offer.
So, why on earth would Google go and make a web browser….NOW? Browsers have been around since the dawn of the internet. When I got started, Netscape was what most of my friends & I used. I began to split my browsing time between Netscape & IE, while my tech friends swore by Opera.
After many IE upgrades (ie security issues), so many I knew went to Firefox (weren’t these the Opera graduates? *smile*) That’s where things have just sorta hung in limbo (as far as I am concerned – I’m no techie and I’m definitely not a browser expert!)
I’m simply an end user who is tired of crashes, security patches, loading issues and more. It eats up my time, not to mention sanity, when browsers don’t work correctly.
So why DID Google decide to create a competing product so late in the game? Is it really a “better mousetrap”? Or is it unique in some way?
Honestly, I don’t have those answers. I’ve not done any research, I haven’t read any news. I simply heard about it in the Twitter stream the other day. Today, I happened to be browsing somewhere that had a download. Like a shiny object glinting in the internet ocean, this seagull had to drive down and take a closer look.
The first thing I decided to do in my shiny new Chrome browser is blog.
I was inspired that Google decided to jump in the sea and create their own web browser. Motives aside, they could have brushed the thought away, knowing that they’re up against browsers that have been around for years. Somehow, I don’t think they care.
They probably only care about THEIR browser and their goals for the product.
What about you? Are you feeling distracted by the noise of your competition? Are you struggling with launching something that’s new to YOU?
There will be people who resonate with you and want to hear about what you have to say. They’ll hear it uniquely from your lips, see it uniquely from your eyes, and experience it uniquely through your story.
So just go for it and don’t worry about the people who’ve “been doing it longer” than you have. This is YOUR vision. And all those around you will be touched by it. You’ll reach people that perhaps some of the old timers may never get an opportunity to interact with.
And what you have to share….it’ll be new to THOSE people, those in YOUR sphere of influence, and that’s all that matters!

I am going to have to check out this new Google Chrome browser. Sounds very interesting….. Good advice also for those of us with products in highly competitive markets. I keep a watch on whats going on, but keep my goals in front of me, my chin up, and try not to get discourage.
Wow great post Ricci! I think that too often entrepreneurs can miss the point of opportunity, which is what this article is all about! Even when someone decides to buy into a DSM business – they are the BRAND! They need to create something that makes people want to buy from them!
Just like Google got you to download chrome…!
